Learn to dance the Rumba and West Coast Swing (WCS) with professional dancer and instructor Michelle Vicale. Rumba is a traditional Latin American dance with African, Cuban, and European influences from the 16th century. Cuban musicians and dancers brought Rumba to the US. in the 1920's and 1930's. WCS originated in California in the 1940s, evolving from Lindy Hop, a popular swing dance from the 1930s. As swing music slowed and smoothed out, especially with the rise of blues and early rock 'n' roll, dancers adapted the high-energy style of Lindy Hop into a more slotted and smooth partner dance, which became known as West Coast Swing. Fun fact, it was the official state dance of California in 1988!
No experience necessary and no partner required.
