How did American Colonists navigate the dark? Tallow candles, a plate of grease holding a wick, and mirrors behind lights illuminated the home. Travelers carried punched tin lanterns and oil lamps lit the nighttime streets. Evenings were never brightly lit but always moody and ambient. Open to all.
